Social Worker - Assistant Role
Your Opportunity:
The position provides a range of resource-based services and basic, practical interventions relevant to the service area. The incumbent will assist the Social Worker II with implementation and coordination of resourcing tasks, and should be familiar with healthcare, community and governmental services/resources that can provide support to patients and families. This position requires clinical supervision from a SWII or SWIII regarding work assignments, appropriate interventions and determination of when patient/family care needs require intervention beyond scope of this role. This position will collaborate with interprofessional team to facilitate patient family and team resource goals; as well as acting as a liaison between patient/families and resources and support services. The University of Alberta Hospital is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research, and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually from western and northern Canada. The hospital offers a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services, including specialized adult services within cardiac sciences, neurosciences, surgery, medicine, orthopedics, renal, critical care, burns, transplant and trauma inpatient programs as well as a vast number of ambulatory clinics. This position is part of the centralized Rehabilitation and Allied Health Program responsible for the adult patient population and will support patients specifically who are within the social work team, concentrating services with the acute and ambulatory service areas. Occasional weekend is required, the schedule may be negotiable, part time positions may afford up to full time hours on a casual basis. Description:
As a Social Worker I, you will be a member of a multi- disciplinary team that provides mental health services to individuals, families and/or groups at a community based facility. You will be responsible for the initial screening of patients by gathering and documenting client information, basic assessment and providing support to clients and their families' short-term needs. You will liaise with and refer clients to appropriate community and government services and support, along with participating in case conferences and team meetings.

Completion of diploma in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
Additional Required Qualifications:Recent adult acute care experience required. Knowledge of community and government resources. The candidate will have proven communication skills to work cooperatively and effectively with the health care team members, patients and their families in a fast paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with inpatients and ambulatory patients with chronic disease. Preference for candidates with working knowledge of the health care system and community resources. Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint are preferred. Familiarity with Netcare, Connect Care and or principles of electronic documentation are preferred.
