Registered Nurse
Your Opportunity:
The Registered Nurse position functions as a member of the Red Deer Opioid Dependency Program (ODP) and Narcotic Transition Service (NTS), and interdisciplinary health and treatment team. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring their practice and documentation is in line with the Community Protection and Opioid Stewardship Standards and current best practices. The RN will responsible for completing assessments, treatment plan coordination and facilitating access to the Addiction Medicine Physician for all NTS clients. The RN is responsible for assessment, supervision, medication preparation, including dispensing oral opioid agonist medications and IM/IV opioids for NTS clients, and medical intervention as required (BLS, overdose response, stimulant intoxication response). With virtual and/or on-site physician support, the RN will supervise self-administration of prescribed medication for individuals accessing the ODP. The RN will complete post consumption monitoring, including assessment for adverse effects. The RN will be a case manager for individuals accessing the ODP including daily engagement with program participants and engaging in development and review of treatment plans. The Registered Nurse may be required to complete phlebotomy, vaccinations, and ECGs as required. Additionally, the Registered Nurse will provide support in maintaining triplicate prescription profiles for the ODP. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:Expert knowledge of co-occurring health needs (addiction and mental health) is required. Knowledge and experience using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V). Current Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers; Employer-provided training in Suicide Risk Management; Employer-provided training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention; Must have minimum 5 years' experience working with vulnerable populations including those who are unhoused and living with addiction and mental health concerns. Knowledge of and ability to apply the principles of trauma informed care in all interactions with clients. It is also a requirement that the incumbent is physically able to rapidly respond to behavioural/clinical emergencies that may occur anywhere in the building which include navigating stairs, bending, squatting and lifting.
