The Peter Lougheed Centre is offering this opportunity for a Full Time, Lead Hand. The FM&E department at the Peter Lougheed Centre is a fast-paced dynamic environment suitable to a highly motivated and energetic individual who thrives in a leadership role. You will be part of diverse team that prioritizes patient care and leads in workplace safety. This role is a supervisory position responsible for all duties of the Hospital Facilities Tradesmen, Technologists and Maintenance Worker Teams. The Lead Hand performs all duties of their particular trade as required depending on operational needs. This position reports to the appropriate Manager/Director. Assists teams and contractors in assessing, planning and scheduling work. Prioritizes work requisitions keeping backlog at a minimum. Performs regular inspections on projects done by internal staff and outside contractors. Meets and liaisons with internal customers, suppliers, vendors and contractors. Reviews project drawings and ensures those projects are completed to facility Construction Standards and Guidelines. Generates cost estimates for materials, supplies and contracted work. Leads and participates in Process Improvement initiatives. Responsible for the proper operation and care of equipment, tools and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Supports and drives processes to make certain all safety procedures are up-to-date and adhered to by staff. Orientates new staff and ensures all staff are competently trained and informed of policy and procedural changes within area of responsibility. Ensures teams adhere to Infection Prevention and Control procedures (IP&C). Other duties as assigned by Manager/Director.
Description:
As a Lead Hand, you will be responsible for providing functional supervision to a moderately sized group of similar journeyperson trade staff. In addition to functional supervision, you will perform a wide variety of journeyperson level trade duties associated with maintaining, renovating, repairing and construction in accordance with AHS standards and practices. You will assign work of journeyperson and supervise staff and perform ongoing maintenance work in an area of assigned trade or related responsibility. In addition, you will provide health and safety training and orientation and ensure compliance.
