Wood Buffalo Addiction and Mental Health Service has a temp fulltime opportunity for an Addiction Counsellor III. The Addiction and Mental Health portfolio works with a common purpose: to promote understanding and compassion, to encourage healthy behaviour and attitudes, and to help all Albertans achieve well-being throughout their lives. The Child and Youth, Community Addictions and Mental Health program provides specialized assessment and treatment services to children, youth and their families. The addictions and mental health, child and youth team work collaboratively as a multidisciplinary team providing care of children experiencing serious emotional, psychological, behavioural and/or psychiatric illness. As an Addictions Counsellor III, you will assist in the rehabilitation for people with severe and persistent mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders. Supporting individuals' abilities to guide their own wellness journeys, and live satisfying, hopeful, and contributing lives. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, Recovery Alberta currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:
As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will provide quality, client focused, recovery based and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education and referral services for clients and their families; as well as community stabilization services. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues.

Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.
