Alberta Health Services is seeking a dedicated Workplace Health and Safety Business Partnership (WHSBP) Safety Advisor, to play the crucial role of ensuring a safe and healthy workforce, directly contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care for Albertans As the WHSBP Safety Advisor, you will be a safety-focused expert providing consultation and education, as you provide AHS Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) services such as fit testing, supporting incident reporting and investigation, engaging with staff and managers about health and safety concerns and making recommendations to ensure alignment with WHS programs and initiatives. While components of this role are largely performed independently, you will also engage with diverse partners and contribute effectively to a team. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As a WHSBP Safety Advisor, you will be a strategic partner in managing risks and leading the development and management of WHS initiatives and programs within your portfolio. You will collaborate closely with workers, leaders, departments, sites, programs, and partners to provide ongoing support. Your role will involve engaging key players to provide best practice recommendations, resources, and direction with the goal of preventing worker injury and illness. You will perform on-site duties, including fit testing, supporting inspections, incident investigations, and Joint Workplace Health and Safety Committees. This requires the ability to transport equipment and supplies to sites within your designated area to perform these duties effectively. In this role, you will bring your subject matter expertise, leadership, and solution-focused approach to assist in the development of strategies that support WHS initiatives and programs. You will support the coordination and delivery of educational tools and resources while leading the implementation of projects and programs that protect and enhance the health, safety, and wellness of AHS staff. You will engage in change management by interpreting client needs, assessing requirements, and identifying innovative solutions to multifaceted and time-sensitive challenges. As the WHSBP Safety Advisor, you will work to ensure that Alberta Health Services' values and goals are implemented and integrated into the delivery of services. This includes cultivating a growth mindset by continuously evolving your practices and strategies to meet the ever-changing needs of the workplace.

Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess an Occupational Health and Safety degree, diploma, or certificate, with a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation. Candidates who are actively pursuing their CRSP designation are eligible, if they are enrolled in an accredited program with a commitment to complete it within two years. Proof of enrollment may be required.


Additional Required Qualifications:

The WHSBP Safety Advisor must have proven problem-solving abilities addressing complex issues with a solution-focused approach, including investigation and concerns resolution. You will provide consultation, advice and education on WHS issues while engaging partners and fostering collaboration across teams. You will demonstrate your facilitation and coordination experience in project planning, execution, reporting, monitoring and evaluation, you will also showcase strong organizational skills, time management, and a client-focused approach. Your commitment to delivering quality services will be key in ensuring positive outcomes. As the successful candidate, you will possess a growth mindset, adapting to evolving challenges in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities. You will be comfortable taking on decision-making responsibilities, coaching, and teaching others, while inspiring confidence and fostering a culture of continuous learning. Your ability to engage with diverse teams, combined with your leadership skills will be crucial. You will also demonstrate the ability to innovate within your role, contributing new ideas and solutions to support WHS practices and initiatives. As an excellent communicator, you will explain complex issues in a simple, professional manner and build strong relationships with key internal and external partners.


Preferred Qualifications:

Achievement of a degree, diploma, or certificate, with certification and registration in occupational hygiene or industrial hygiene is preferred. A degree or diploma in science or occupational health and safety, combined with Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Canadian registered safety technician (CRST), certificated safety professional (CSP), or occupational hygiene and safety technician (OHST) is preferred. Previous experience in a healthcare environment an asset.
