Your Opportunity:

The Team Leader reports directly to the OR Unit Manager and is responsible for providing daily leadership, teaching and support to the Service Workers within the department. Accountable and responsible to provide work direction for Service Workers and other associated staff in the area. Must be able to initiate and motivate staff, prioritize and organize workload and resolve conflicts. Due to the nature of the duties, the incumbent must be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and manage a fast paced, demanding environment that has shifting daily priorities. Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to critically think and trouble shoot when necessary. Assists in the orientation of new staff as well as provides input for probationary evaluations and annual performance appraisals of employees. Duties are performed in adherence to established departmental standards and procedures as well as in adherence to all AHS policies & procedures. The Diagnostic Treatment Center (DTC) Operating Room is the main OR for the RAH and is comprised of 13 theatres and 18 bed recovery area. This area is a fast paced environment that includes arthroplasty, orthopedic trauma, plastic, maxillofacial, urology, thoracic, neurosurgery and general surgery. There are five theatres that are digitally integrated for perform minimally invasive surgery. We do over 10,000 surgeries a year both scheduled and unscheduled procedures most of which are high intensity.

Description:

As a Working Leader - Service Worker, you will be responsible for providing daily leadership to Service Worker staff such as assigning and checking their work, maintaining workflow of the assigned area and providing input into staff performance appraisals. You will act as a formal resource to staff, assist with the day-to-day operational requirements for the area and assist in the orientation and training of new staff. In addition, you will direct, monitor, and ensure the coordination of a centralized system of dispatching supplies and equipment to patient care areas. Where applicable, you will also direct and monitor a centralized system for the transportation of patients (clients/residents) to and from patient care areas within a site.

Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Alberta Heart & Stroke Level C for Health Care Provider. One year recent experience in an equivalent position or recent experience as a working leader. Strong organizational and leadership skills and should include a demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to build confidence in others. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to collaborate within the expectations of an integrated team. Must be able to read, write and understand English well. Ability to demonstrate communications skills that promote respect and a positive team environment. Effective teamwork, conflict resolution, change and resource management skills are essential, incumbent should have effective interpersonal and written communication skills. Computer skills including intermediate experience in Microsoft Outlook, Office and email.

Preferred Qualifications:

WHMIS certification. A minimum of three years working as a Service Worker in the surgical suites. Completion of Post secondary education is an asset.
