The UAH and Stollery Children’s Emergency Department is a busy tertiary care level I emergency department and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This large tertiary Trauma Centre provides opportunities in a broad base of emergency nursing from Pediatrics to Trauma Care. The Unit Manager (UM) will report to and assist the Patient Care Manager in ensuring the provision of high quality and safe patient care on the nursing unit. Description:
As part pf the leadership team, the Unit Manager - Emergency Department will work with the Patient Care Manager and the multidisciplinary team in ensuring a team environment and participate in new initiatives. Coordinate clinical activities including providing day to day direction to the staff working on the unit, daily assignment of patients, patient rounds, staff scheduling, multidisciplinary rounds, identifying and attempting to resolve patient and staff concerns and participating actively in the discharge planning process. Identifies issues, resolves them where possible and communicates them to the appropriate team member. Responsible for efficient use of fiscal human and material resources and provides leadership to the front-line staff. information in this field.

Graduate of a recognized nursing education program. A Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required. Current CARNA registration. BCLS – HCP certification is required. 3-5 years recent and relevant Emergency / Acute Care nursing is required at a minimum. A minimum of 1-2 years supervisory experience is required. A combination of experience and education may be considered. A positive and enthusiastic attitude is required, as is a willingness to actively tackle new challenges and be able to effectively communicate in a professional, caring and compassionate manner. Must have a proven record of demonstrating skills in leading teams, developing and maintaining interpersonal relationships and team building, as well as organizational, analytical judgment, change management and decision-making skills. Effective oral and written communication; Demonstrated clinical experience is required to make quick decisions in a very busy care setting.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with family centered care and a collaborative practical approach is preferred. Management experience preferred. Exposure to community care options and discharge planning an asset. The Unit Manager (UM) will report to and assist the Patient Care Manager in ensuring the provision of high quality and safe patient care on the nursing unit.
