Unit 3-5 in the Helen Hunley Forensic Pavillion is a 19-bed unit that cares for acutely unwell patients. The range of patient needs varies widely, making every day a unique learning opportunity. The patients are cared for by a multi-disciplinary team of registered psychiatric nurses, registered nurses, psychiatric aides, a social worker, psychiatrists, psychologists, a recreational therapist, a pharmacist, occupational therapists, and addiction counsellors. We are seeking a unit manager to provide operational and clinical oversight to the team that is caring for these patients. The successful candidate will bring a mix of experience in leadership positions and fresh perspective to the unit. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:

The Unit Manager performs a leadership role in the Adult Forensics program at Alberta Hospital Edmonton and reports directly to the Program Manager of Adult Forensics. This position is responsible and accountable for providing direction, team leadership and organization over unit operations. The position is responsible and accountable for making unit-level decisions and having direct leadership responsibility for contributing to the achievement of the goals of the Adult Forensics program. The Manager will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders which includes but is not limited to Physicians, HR, Financial Services (BAS), and front-line staff - UNA, AUPE GSS/AUX, HSAA, Interdepartmental Partners (i.e. Protective Services, pharmacy), Alberta Hospital Edmonton partners and Recovery Alberta Community Partners. The Unit Manager will foster a high-quality workplace with strong commitment to quality and process improvement and patient & family care focus. Identifying key challenges and opportunities whilst providing leadership to support the development of innovative approaches in ways that enable the achievement of excellent client and family centered care is an important aspect of this role. The Unit Manger will contribute to the development of the portfolio strategic plan and the establishment of operational priorities.

Required Qualifications:

Professional registration with a health care college. At least 2 years of experience in a management or leadership role. Current certification with Heart and Stroke BCLS-HCP. Ability to physically perform all competencies associated with the position - standing, walking, sitting for extended periods, carrying loads of up to 10 kg.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Superior communication skills. Superior conflict management skills. Awareness of change management theories and experience applying same. Demonstrated pattern of professional development. Submission of a cover letter that speaks to your specific interest in this competition.


Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Health, Nursing, or Administration. Demonstration of coursework in conflict management. Management experience from corrections, forensics, or mental health.
