Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Unit Manager is accountable for the effective management of human, material, and financial resources in Neurosciences ICU- Unit 4A4 at the UAH. This first line management position is expected to provide clinical leadership in providing quality patient care and maintenance of unit best practice standards in alignment with AHS values. This frontline management position is expected to facilitate the professional development of staff and self, through motivation and coaching. Essential to this leadership role is communication, practice, education, research and administration.

Description:

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Unit Manager is accountable for the effective management of human resources and maintenance of Unit best practice standards and quality patient care, in alignment with AHS values. The Unit Manager has fiscal responsibility for the allocation of material and financial resources. This role is responsible to coach team members to achieve comprehensive and integrated care planning, promoting the development of clinical practice quality improvements, implementing evidence-based practice and critically assessing, evaluating, anticipating and addressing risks to patient and staff safety. This role leads the implementation of the provincial, zone and local clinical and operational priorities and initiatives at the unit level. It is expected that the Unit Manager will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders. The Unit Manager will actively participate in and support research within the area. Essential skills for this role include communication, adherence to best practice standards, fiscal responsibility, commitment to continued education, research and administration.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a recognized School of Nursing. Active CRNA registration required. BCLSHCP required. Minimum 3 to 5 years of recent nursing experience required. Highly motivated, self-directed and demonstrated accountability and integrity in the performance of duties required.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Previous management or leadership experience (charge nurse, nurse educator, project manager, etc.). Demonstrating effective leadership / management, team building, teaching and communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to establish and manage interpersonal relationships. Effective written and verbal communication skills, problem solving, decision making, facilitating teamwork, conflict resolution, change and resource management skills. Ability to integrate and apply clinical excellence in day-to-day management on the unit/team. Knowledge of acute care is required. Knowledge of AHS, Alberta’s healthcare structure, and collective agreements.


Preferred Qualifications:

Neuroscience Experience an asset.
