Your Opportunity:

Key activities of the Unit Manager include recruitment, orientation & training, ensuring clinical practice is reflective of RA policy (observation, restraint as a last resort, standardized risk assessments, CoACT, etc), adherence to collective agreements and ensuring that all staff are working to a full scope of practice. Staff scheduling for both planned and unplanned absences with attention to fiscal constraints. The Unit Manager acts as a liaison between patients/families to address concerns and provide system navigation. Key internal & external partners that this position would have regular engagement with include our Psychiatrists, the Review Board, and OPG /OPT, WHS, IPC, Protective Services and the rest of the AHE site. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:

The Unit Manager will provide daily direct inspired leadership and clinical oversight to the Mental Health & Addiction Adult Acute Units. Applying the best evidence informed practice and using a continuous quality improvement approach, the Manager will ensure that services delivered by the team(s) meet the needs of service users and stakeholders. The Manager will have an active relationship with physicians, service users and other invested parties in order to continually gauge the perception of the quality of services provided and in order to facilitate seamless and continuous care. The Manager will provide coaching and assist in the delivery of competency-based education and the delivery of three streams of service: mental health, addictions and concurrent disorders. The Manager is expected to recruit highly skilled and committed staff, as well as oversee the daily operations of the acute care team - including the practical, financial and complex clinical aspects of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

Degree or diploma in a health related field. Registration with professional association/college as appropriate. Minimum of 5 years of front line experience with demonstrated informal leadership competencies (e.g. participation on committees/projects, leading peers, consulting to management, conducting education, sitting on external boards, involvement with professional association etc). Demonstrated competency in leading self, engaging others, achieving results, building relationships/coalitions and championing system change.

Preferred Qualifications:

Connect Care access and collaborate care experience. Preference will be given to candidates with a nursing background. Knowledge and experience within the Mental Health & Addiction portfolio an asset.
