Unit Clerk - Crisis Stabilization

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a new 10-bed Mental Health Unit, located inside the Emergency Department at Rockyview General Hospital. The Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) is a dynamic service made up of a patient and family centered multidisciplinary team; focusing on a culture and expectation of relentless work ethic, positivity, constant proactive patient and colleague collaboration, and an emphasis on team. The unit focus is on stabilizing acute addiction and mental health crisis, patient education, instilling hope in the patient’s recovery, and connecting individuals to community based resources within a 24 hour period. The Unit Clerk - Crisis Stabilization provides administrative and clerical support to a multidisciplinary team of staff and physicians that may also duties in the Triage area in the Emergency Department related to guiding patients to the unit, or in the event of a code orange, as well as occasionally assisting other departments within the RGH mental health team. The successful applicant is an assertive, proactive individual, and possesses the ability to respectfully interact in a wide range of circumstances. The successful applicant also excels at working in a collaborative, fast-paced, positive team environment that requires excellent awareness, prioritization, communication, conflict resolution, critical thinking and decision-making skills. Knowledge and adherence to AHS policies, procedures, and code of conduct is a requirement of the individual maintaining the position; in addition to awareness of, and adherence to various applicable acts, such as the Mental Health, Health Information and FIOP acts. It is also the expectation that the successful candidate stays up to date on current unit specific practices, and attend to duties in a timely, accurate manner as outlined by Recovery Alberta and the CSU management team.
Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:Intermediate MS Office experience and proficiency. Previous Inpatient or Emergency experience. A high level of proficiency with Sunrise Clinical Manager and Clinibase for admission, discharge and transfer processes. Accurate data entry and keyboarding skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in fluent English. Demonstrated excellence in respectful and professional communication. Comfortable working with and respectful of patients experiencing a variety of mental health and addictions diagnoses. Ability to work in an extremely fast-paced environment. Proven ability and proficiency in supporting a multidisciplinary team. Experience in effectively and respectfully liaising with other staff and patients on unit, and in other departments, both inside and outside the hospital environment. The ability to work as part of a team with minimal supervision is required. Successful completion of Medical Terminology. Knowledge of medical terminology is required. Well-developed time-management skill. Ability to remain focused in stressful acute patient situations. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required. Ability to work as a team member and to request and accept direction as required. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Preferred Qualifications:Experience in a Unit Clerk position in a mental health setting is preferred. Proficient user of Windows based applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Ability to communicate effectively to others, both verbally and in writing. Ability to prioritize work and effectively cope with frequent interruptions, noise, and other nearby distractions.
