The Pulmonary Diagnostics department within SHC is currently recruiting for a Unit Clerk. Reporting to the Unit Manager of Pulmonary Diagnostics, the Unit Clerk will assist in completion of clerical tasks associated with the following areas: Pulmonary Function Lab, Pulmonary Clinic, and Bronchoscopy. Within these areas the Unit Clerk will be tasked with the following: Answering and managing phone calls. Checking patients in for their appointments, verifying all demographic information. Management and processing of outgoing patient referrals in accordance with Path to Care guidelines. Processing physician orders and coordinating diagnostic exams with internal and external facilities. Coordinating internal and external transportation of patients and equipment. Faxing documentation as required. Data entry into various IT systems. Completion of reminder patient phone calls, as required.
Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 1 year working in an ambulatory setting in the last 2 years, Pulmonary Clinic preferred. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team is mandatory. Excellent English language skills in reading, writing and oral communication. Excellent time management and prioritization skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a dynamic environment. Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrated ability to learn multiple workflows and to manage competing priorities. Physical abilities: prolonged sitting, prolonged standing, repetitive movements are involved in the day-to-day work activities. Must be able to bend, lift, push and pull office supplies of up to 40 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:Proficiency with the following IT systems: Connect Care Modules Ambulatory Unit Clerk, and Lumens, Netcare, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer.
