Your Opportunity:
The successful candidate will provide clerical support to Level III Operative Services to ensure the efficient day-to-day operations of the department. Performs clerical duties and/or staffing/payroll. These duties would include, but are not limited to: reception for the OR, Recovery Room, Pre-Admission Clinic, Adult Day Surgery/Same Day Admit, assisting with the flow of surgical cases, ordering charts, word processing & filing, registration of patients and booking and organizing of surgical operations, ordering of surgical instruments, supplies & data entry. Performing time keeping & booking of relief staff.
Description:
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:A one year Unit Clerk certificate (with practicum component) from a recognized post-secondary institution is required. Unit Clerk experience is required. Successful completion of a recognized course in medical terminology is required. Demonstrated competency in Microsoft Excel & Word required. Must type at least 55 WPM. Proven interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational, time management, & interpersonal skills required. Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision. Capable of working in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment. Work environment consists of frequent interruptions, numerous demands, & conflicting priorities. Must be self-motivated & able to set priorities and meet firm deadlines. Ability to work as a team player. Able to recognize & maintain confidential information. The start time of scheduled working hours are staggered; may be required to work extended workdays. Assists in orientation of new staff and students.
Preferred Qualifications:Minimum of 3 years recent (within the last 5 years) acute care, surgery, operating room or emergency experience preferred. Experience with e-People, OR Manager, Netcare, Connect Care is an asset. Accuracy and attention to detail essential.
