Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.
Additional Qualifications:Therapeutic Recreation or Therapy Assistant diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution required. Minimum 1-year experience working in a rehabilitation setting providing therapy for individuals with chronic disease and complex dementia needs. Alberta Leadership and Fitness Certification with a specialty in Fitness for the Older Adult required (AHS will allow maximum 6-months to become certified). Valid BCLS-HCP and First Aide certificate required (must achieve within 3-months). Proven organizational & time management skills. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills. Able to accept verbal and written instructions. Able to work with minimal supervision. Professional and courteous manner. Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel. Punctual, meticulous and reliable. Demonstrates regular attendance. Physically capable of pushing wheelchairs for an extended period of time and performing client transfers. Class 4 license required (must achieve within 3-month) and able to safely operate a Handibus. Class 5 license and a reliable vehicle as travel may be required to provide therapy to clients in the community. Preference will be given to candidates who currently hold these qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of medical terminology an asset.
