AHS has an exciting opportunity for a Recreation Assistant who will have opportunity to work within a dynamic environment that is designed to meet the needs of individuals who present with a combination of dementia syndrome and complex behavioral issues. The Recreation Assistant is part of a dynamic interdisciplinary team with a strong focus on the multi-disciplinary and collaborative process, including and focused on the patient. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the promotion of a comprehensive service for the residents, developing and implementing evidence based, client-centered practice based on therapeutic recreation standards of practice in collaboration with the Recreation Therapist. Therapy Assistants, Physiotherapy, Speech Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, and Social Work on our Allied Health team work in close collaboration with our nursing teams. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Therapeutic Recreation Assistant or equivalent Diploma/Certification from a recognized post-secondary institution or equivalent experience required. Must have or be able to attain Class 4 Driver's license within 8 weeks of hire to drive a 10-passenger bus for resident outings. Physically capable of pushing wheelchairs for an extended period of time, walking and/ or biking with residents for an extended period of time, performing client transfers. Proficient with computers and electronic charting, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel, and Connect Care.

Ability to use principles of time management and effective problem solving. Effectively uses information and communication technology to improve inter-professional person centered care. Displays an attitude that conveys respect and dignity of all persons. Independent and shared accountability in a just culture. Establish caring and respectful relationships with clients, families and coworkers. Work within a team environment and effectively contribute to client planning processes.
