This position offers a unique opportunity for a growth-oriented Therapy Assistant to build their practice as part of a highly collaborative team. The successful candidate will work to their full scope of practice and have opportunities to contribute to program development, quality improvement initiatives, and to support projects focused on enhancing the patient experience. Our program strives to offer functional and goal-oriented services to achieve maximal functional gains for our clients. This includes individual and group interventions performed in the clinic and the community. This work is always performed in collaboration with the client, their family & support persons, and the larger Calgary Fall Prevention team. The Therapy Assistant regularly works with internal and external stakeholders to optimize service delivery and to serve our program mission: to lead in the care and wellness of frail older adults. Reporting directly to the Care Manager, Specialized Geriatric Services (SGS) the Therapist Assistant (TA) will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services for older adults. This position primarily supports the Calgary Fall Prevention Clinic and may be asked to support other programs within the department (e.g., Move N Mingle, Geriatric Consult Team). Clinical care will be performed under the direction and supervision of a therapist. Services may be performed in ambulatory, home, and other community settings. This position also supports the day-to-day operation of the clinic, as required.

Description:

As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent experience (last 3-5 years) working in ambulatory and/or community rehabilitation settings. Recent experience working with community-dwelling older adults. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously within the scope of a TA, e.g., home visits. Demonstrated and clear pattern of professional and personal development. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated excellent conflict resolution skills. Demonstrated ability to effect change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Demonstrated excellent organizational and time management skills. Intermediate computer skills including the use of Microsoft office required. Proven initiative, collaborative critical thinking and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability to function effectively within a patient and family centered team of health care professionals and support staff. Physically able to perform all assigned tasks including transfers and manual therapy and as guided by the position HIAC. This position requires travel within the city of Calgary.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a transdisciplinary community practice setting. Membership with Therapy Assistant Association of Alberta. Demonstrated continuous professional development in the treatment and management of conditions experienced by older adults. Experience with mentorship (e.g. staff and/or students) and/or teaching. Experience with participation in program development or quality management activities. Strong understanding of the services available along the continuum of care for older adults.
