Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Area/Care Manager the HCA supervisor is accountable for the recruitment, supervision, education and performance management of HCAs in Airdrie & Didsbury. The HCA Supervisor supports safe practice by providing access to the appropriate education, teaching, training, as well as monitoring of client care, including restricted activities. The Supervisor promotes and develops strong working relationships within the interdisciplinary team. This position involves oversight of the HCAs in Airdrie & Didsbury. This role requires work out of geo area offices and travel supervising HCA’s caring for clients in their homes or in the Rural community of the assigned geo area. You will be responsible to operate an AHS assigned laptop computer and mobile phone. Sitting, standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping and carrying equipment is required throughout the shift

Description:

As part of the Home Care management team, the Supervisor is accountable for supporting safe practice by providing leadership, education, teaching, training, monitoring of client care and restricted activities, ensuring that the HCA’s have the competencies required to fulfil their role. The Supervisor is responsible for performance management, staff development, recruitment, orientation, monitoring of required organizational learning, staffing, scheduling, oversight of the client schedule, monitoring of supply and equipment use and needs, responding to and resolving client concerns. Suggests areas for improvement and conducts coaching and performance conversations. The Supervisor acts a coach and mentor to staff requiring improvement in knowledge or skill development.

Required Qualifications:

Licensed Practical Nurse Diploma or certificate required. Active registration in good standing with CLPNA. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Health Care Provider. Minimum 5 years working as an LPN in in an Acute Care setting. Previous Home Care community experience. Previous leadership, supervisory experience. Previous experience working with HCAs. Knowledge, skill, ability and willingness to work to full scope of practice. Commitment to continuous learning relevant to LPN practice. Ability to utilize critical thinking skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience and use of technology and competency in computer, smartphone, clinical electronic device use, electronic documentation and related software applications.


Additional Required Qualifications:

3-5 years' experience working as an LPN in Acute or Community care.


Preferred Qualifications:

Previous leadership experience. Post Diploma education, degree preferred. Knowledge of nursing standards, and HCA scope of practice. Ability to problem solve, prioritize and organize work with minimal supervision. Effective communication and mentoring skills in a team environment. Experience with Connect Care and staff scheduling application (ESP or MySchedule/Infor WFM).
