Social Worker III
Your Opportunity:
The University of Alberta hospital offers a wide range of services, including cardiac sciences, neurosciences, surgery, medicine, critical care, burns, transplant, renal, and a vast number of ambulatory clinics. We are seeking an experienced individual to join our team in a Social Work III position. Reporting to the Social Work Manager, Allied Health, this Team Lead role provides opportunity for Advanced Clinical Practice (SW III) across inpatient and ambulatory program areas at the tertiary healthcare site. This position is a blend of team lead with front-line patient care, supporting quality patient and family centered care while addressing psychosocial needs and challenges. As a clinician, you will complete advanced level psychosocial assessments and interventions, relating to transplant preparation, adjustment, and crisis intervention. You are responsible for making complex clinical decisions based on the assessment and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team. As a Team Lead, you will be a critical thinker and applying a systemic perspective to advocate in a trauma informed and culturally competent manner to staff. You will provide leadership, orientation, coaching and mentoring on complex psychosocial issues impacting patient care, safe discharge planning, monitoring progress and evaluation, and support best practice of core clinical competencies.

As a Social Worker III, you will perform either advanced level assessment and treatment or act as a clinical lead. You will work with or within teams to provide health care services for patients with complex and multidimensional medical, psychosocial, environmental and instrumental needs. You will provide advanced clinical services, consultation to the interprofessional team and patients/families and supervision of students and team members as assigned. You may also act as a clinical lead providing leadership in the planning, development, and delivery of services in a specific area, as well as staff development, quality improvement and evaluation or research activities as identified by the needs of the service area(s).

Master's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
Additional Required Qualifications:A minimum of 5 years clinical experience in a tertiary healthcare setting. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. An extensive knowledge of the client population and related evidence-based practices and advanced level interventions including counseling in pre and post-transplant psychosocial preparation and post-treatment counseling. Experience in providing advanced level family and patient support in the case of difficult and complex dynamics which impact patient care, accessibility and utilization of resources, and decision-making. Leadership experience in service planning, coordination, implementation, reporting, monitoring and evaluation. Demonstrated ability in leading teams, creating and supporting a positive environment providing advanced practice support to social workers and students, including coaching, mentoring and teaching, and the ability to facilitate practice growth in others. Demonstrated ability to foster collaborative relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. Effective communication, problem solving, change management and organizational skills. Strong interpersonal skills, including an ability to navigate sensitive situations, conflict resolution and to exercise judgement in escalating concerns as appropriate to the role. Aptitude for performing in an environment of continuous change and learning.
Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge and ability to use computer applications such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook). In depth knowledge of specialized resources affecting patient care, including Advanced Care Planning, EPOA, PD, Guardianship/Trusteeship, placement, basic needs (food, shelter, transportation, etc.), specialized addiction resources, financial resources such as pensions, AISH, disability insurance, etc.
