The University of Alberta Hospital is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research, and teaching hospitals, and offers a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services, including adult services within renal and liver living donation programs. The Living Donor Social Worker (LD SWII) is part of Give Life Alberta and is based in Edmonton. The role of the Living Donor Social Worker is to provide psychosocial assessments and support potential living organ donors and their caregivers. The Living Donor Social Worker responsibilities include psychosocial assessments, counselling, support, case management, resource coordination, education and information, advocacy, financial planning, interdisciplinary collaboration, crisis intervention, post donation follow up as well as documentation and evaluation. The Living Door Social Worker ensures the donor is psychologically, financially and socially ready to make a voluntary and informed decision to become a living donor. The role assists donors to navigate the complex healthcare system, manage emotional and practical challenges of living donation and works closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure a holistic approach to donor/patient care.

As a Social Worker II, you will be a member of an inter-disciplinary team and provides a range of social work services to patients and their families. Your services may include: psychosocial assessment, resource-based interventions, individual, group and family treatment, risk screening, counselling, case management and coordination, transition or discharge planning, and prevention, promotion and public awareness activities.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years’ experience working as an RSW in acute care/ambulatory setting or recent experience working with living donors or transplant recipients. Cultural awareness and sensitivity, and experience serving vulnerable populations are essential. The candidate will hold working knowledge of the health care system, community resources, and relevant legislation and decision-making (Personal Directives Act, Mental Health Act). The candidate will have demonstrated strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively and effectively with teams, patients and their families in a fast-paced environment. Ability to initiate work and make sound professional decisions using critical thinking and problem-solving skills, in a complex multidisciplinary environment, and seek support and guidance from leadership as needed. Good understanding of health promotion and social determinants of health. Strong time management skills are required to prioritize and complete assigned tasks. Current Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) certification is required. Demonstrated clarity in your communication, organization and consistency of ideas, both verbally and written, including clinical documentation, is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency with Microsoft office including Word and Outlook are preferred. Experience using Connect Care preferred. Master's Degree is an asset. Authorized by ACSW to provide Psychosocial Interventions preferred. Training in suicide prevention; risk assessment; and/or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention preferred.
