The University of Alberta Hospital is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research, and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually from western and northern Canada. The hospital offers a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services, including specialized adult services within cardiac sciences, neurosciences, surgery, medicine, orthopedics, renal, critical care, burns, transplant and trauma inpatient programs as well as a vast number of ambulatory clinics. This position is part of the centralized Rehabilitation and Allied Health Program responsible for the adult population across inpatient acute care. The candidate will be a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who collaborates with healthcare team members, patients and their families in a fast paced environment. The candidate will hold working knowledge of the health care system and community resources to support complex discharge planning, financial assessments, crisis intervention, capacity assessment and decision making, advocacy, consultation and referring to internal/external agencies. As a Social Worker II you are part of a health care team driven to provide quality patient centered care though best practices and evidence informed approaches.
Description:
As a Social Worker II, you will be a member of an inter-disciplinary team and provides a range of social work services to patients and their families. Your services may include: psychosocial assessment, resource-based interventions, individual, group and family treatment, risk screening, counselling, case management and coordination, transition or discharge planning, and prevention, promotion and public awareness activities.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Social Work. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
Additional Required Qualifications:Recent adult acute care inpatient experience is required. Able to act quickly and decisively using critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze facts, consider the impact, and arriving at a sound conclusion. Strong professional judgment, initiative, and effective time management skills are necessary to prioritize and complete assigned tasks. Ensuring concise, timely and accurate communication with team, patients and families. Experience with actively and positively contributing to an interdisciplinary team is essential. Current Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP) certification is required. Experience with relevant legislation including Personal Directives Act, the Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Act and complex placement processes is required. Strong professional judgment, initiative, and effective time management skills are necessary. The ability to work with various computer programs is an asset. Demonstrated clarity in your communication, organization and consistency of ideas, both verbally and written, including clinical documentation, is required. You can work independently and as a part of the team creating strong, effective interpersonal working relationships with peers and other caregivers. You are a reliable worker who uses time effectively and is able to prioritize and complete assigned tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:A Master of Social Work degree (MSW) is an asset. Knowledge and ability to use computer applications such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook). Experience with Connect Care is preferred.
