Your Opportunity:

The Senior PM is responsible for and provides leadership to project management activities across all stages of a project, often including pre-project activities and spanning project initiation, planning and execution, implementation, evaluation and closure. The Senior PM applies project management methodology and expertise, effectively facilitates diverse groups addressing complex issues, and skillfully engages stakeholders to develop effective and efficient solutions and health services. The Senior PM applies knowledge management practices and expertise to effectively manage project knowledge, and contribute to organizational learning. The Senior PM must possess the skills to use data and information to effectively advance quality and innovation. The Senior PM is committed to quality improvement and appropriately applies change management and process improvement principles, knowledge and expertise. The Senior PM works within a team-based and matrix resourcing environment and may supervise staff or lead functional teams or projects. The Senior PM seeks guidance from the Provincial Program Director appropriately for complex issues that may have broader organization impact. This role provides project management, change management, quality improvement, and leadership expertise for an interdisciplinary team of professionals and leaders (i.e., internal or external technical and content experts and/or consultants) assigned to support ongoing improvements in surgical care and outcomes.

Description:

This leadership position holds a high degree of independence to coordinate, facilitate, develop, implement and evaluate Zone surgical quality improvement and initiatives. This will require leadership application of quality improvement, change improvement and business methodologies. This position will coordinate initiatives with multiple stakeholders and across sites both within and between Zones, where required. The Zone Surgical Senior Consultant assesses requirements, identifies solutions to complex issues and requests, follows evidence- informed methodologies, and ensures Alberta Health Services (AHS) values, goals and principles are implemented and integrated in the delivery of Surgical Services across the Zone. This role provides project management, change management, quality improvement, and leadership expertise for an interdisciplinary team of professionals and leaders (i.e., internal or external technical and content experts and/or consultants) assigned to support ongoing improvements in surgical care and outcomes. The Surgical Senior Consultant is also responsible for: Providing direction, facilitation, and coordinated support and management of the Surgery Program Improvement & Innovation (PIN) initiatives within the North Zone. Managing organizational infrastructure required to achieve specific project deliverables, including establishing and overseeing implementation of strategic and business plans, budgets, quality improvement initiatives, planning and progress reporting. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Required Qualifications:

An undergraduate degree in nursing, social sciences, health profession, management and/or business is required. A master’s degree in health, Business, Leadership, Policy or Social Sciences. Equivalencies will be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of five years’ experience in leadership/management in a complex health care setting or an organization of significant size. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development, the incumbent will possess a record of accomplishment in the following areas: Specialized expertise in planning methodologies, including quality improvement, project management and change management across teams and sites. Coordination experience in project planning, execution, reporting, monitoring and evaluation. Experience managing physical and human resources and related financial information and achieving results. Significant experience in problem solving, risk mitigation, concerns resolution, conflict resolution and negotiation. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with leading a team, making decisions, coaching and teaching, and inspiring and building confidence in others in achieving results. Demonstrated ability to engage and foster relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve results. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influencing skills, interpersonal skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services. Ability to develop, facilitate and deliver education to transfer knowledge. Experience in facilitating research, reviews and analysis, evaluations, and formal report development.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification/education in: Health systems leadership. Quality improvement. Change management. Project management.
