Description:
The UAH Clinical Informatics team is a site-based clinical informatics team that improves health outcomes by empowering the Connect Care end user through program development, user experience and system development. The Senior Consultant is a professional leadership role within UAH Clinical Informatics, reporting directly to the Program Lead, Clinical Informatics. The position is accountable for leading, monitoring and managing the development, implementation, maintenance, support and evaluation of operational and improvement work for Epic ASAP at University of Alberta Hospital. The Senior Consultant demonstrates leadership and expertise in the development, deployment, adoption, sustainability and optimization of Connect Care in support of the four pillars of the UAH Clinical Informatics team: education, communication, direct support and technical system development. As an expert in both systems configuration and clinical operations the Senior Consultant is accountable for identifying user pain points and patient safety issues; analyzing complex business requirements; collaborating with AHS Digital Health (IT, COIO, CMIO) and site programs; facilitating results-oriented, user-focused solutions; and supporting adherence to established workflows. The Senior Consultant uses previous experience operationalizing clinical information systems; transforming clinical process; applying user experience and human factors principles to improvements in technical functionality; and implementing process improvement initiatives to be successful in this role. The Senior Consultant develops and maintains strong relationships with all levels of UAH end users (clinicians, educators and managers), AHS Digital Health, Connect Care provincial governance groups and other site-based clinical informatics teams across the zone and province.

Baccalaureate degree in health-related discipline, computer science or human computer interaction/human factors combined with a minimum of 5 years related experience. Excellent analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Excellent user support skills with the ability to communicate effectively. Possesses a high degree of initiative, judgement and decision-making capabilities. Proven success in planning, implementing and evaluating complex improvement projects.

Preferred Qualifications:
Epic certification (ClinDoc, ASAP, Cupid, OpTime, Lumens, Ambulatory or Grand Central). Master’s level education. Three- five years in a formal supervisory/management role.
