Senior Analyst
Your Opportunity:
Are you passionate about using advanced data analysis techniques to support improved patient access and outcomes? This position will develop analytic solutions that leverage advanced techniques to inform priorities defined in collaboration with Surgical Care Albera (SCA in Acute Care Alberta). The priority areas of focus for this role will include Endoscopy care including within context of the new Dual Practice Program (DPP) model, both province-wide in scope and established as priorities by the Government of Alberta. The data environment in use includes Alberta's Electronic Health Record (Connect Care), inclusive of endoscopy and surgery content and appointment details, combined with other significant databases and acquired data where needed, all within a Snowflake Cloud environment. The Senior Analyst reports to the Program Director, Provincial Surgery Data and Analytics, in support of SCA, clinical quality and accountability standards, and with an emphasis on Operations. They will champion measurement for Program Support, Performance, Quality, and Outcomes Improvement (OI). In addition, the incumbent works alongside PSDA team members supporting the broader surgery and anesthesia domains in a collaborative and coordinated approach and provides expertise to support and guide the team in the specialty area of Endoscopy.
Description:
The Senior Analyst will have or develop strong expertise and understanding of the Connect Care Electronic Health Record data structures and workflows, and in Epic's Clarity database. The Senior Analyst will capture, analyze, interpret and report using existing data assets (which may include legacy and other systems beyond Connect Care), and expand those as well as create new data assets. They will possess strong organizational skills and importantly, be confident in presenting complex information to stakeholders whose analytic experience could range from minimal to extensive, and tailoring their communication to meet the decision maker's needs. o be successful in this role, they will be able to establish, cultivate, and sustain relationships with clinical, analytic, administrative, executive, and academic partners across the provincial health organizations. This in addition to the strong partnerships and collaboration within the PSDA team which will directly contribute to overall data product development and team growth. The expertise required for this role will include advanced analytical and visualization methods in combination with strengths in managing projects/initiatives, strategic planning, working with end users, synthesizing analytical best practices and innovation, developing and advising on impactful reporting approaches, and contributing written materials (presentations, reports, interpretations).

5-8 years experience in the following areas: Working with tables/spreadsheets, databases and tools for querying, integrating, analyzing, interpreting, reporting and disseminating data. Able to write complex SQL queries, understand database architecture, and be able to optimize queries for performance. Ability to clean and preprocess data to remove inconsistencies and errors, including data transformation, data normalization, and data aggregation. A solid understanding of statistical analysis and be able to use statistical techniques to analyze data. Managing multiple concurrent projects and meeting deadlines. Proficiency in Tableau or other visualization tools.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Proficiency in data platform and transformation (ETL) tools. Experience in Python, and in python libraries. Experience with Snowflake or other cloud databases. Proficiency in Epic Clarity and/or other Cogito tools. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams, including mentoring and collaborating with others. Proficiency in English, with excellent communication skills and ability to interact with clients by presenting complex analyses, methods and findings in business- and user-friendly language. Comprehensive understanding of health systems. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio and Access) and the ability to become proficient with new software packages. Must abide by the highest standards of confidentiality and have a sound understanding of the principles within Alberta’s Access to Information Act, as well as the Health Information Act.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with Endoscopy clinical workflow and analytics as well as experience with Quality Improvement/Outcomes Improvement methods and a clear understanding of the connection and interdependency between successful quality improvement and measurement will be valuable assets. Experience with Quality Improvement/Outcomes Improvement methods and a clear understanding of the connection and interdependency between successful quality improvement and measurement is an asset.
