Your Opportunity:

The Alberta Children’s Hospital is a warm and vibrant workplace, with team members, youth, families, staff, and physicians partnering together to provide service to the children and families in inpatient units and ambulatory clinics. The seating technician supports the Seating Service at Alberta Children's Hospital. The ACH Seating Service is recognized as a Level C Seating Team with Alberta Aids to Daily Living, providing services for children under 18. The seating technician works collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary health care team, utilizing the principles of family centered care to meet the seating needs of this patient population. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, the seating technician fabricates custom seating devices and a variety of components that support seating of a disabled child under the direction of the clinical team. As the successful candidate you will demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively on a multidisciplinary team; will be highly organized & will demonstrate initiative, adaptability & flexibility to meet varying clinical and operational needs; and will demonstrate effective interpersonal & verbal/written communication skills. The seating technician is responsible for the completion of their own work and accountable to maintain acceptable quality standards of device fabrication. As part of the seating team, you will have opportunity to participate in ongoing educational sessions related to your discipline and be supported in developing skills in other areas of your field. As a trained therapy assistant, you may be required to work in other settings as needed.

Description:

As the Seating Technician you will design, modify, fabricate, assemble and repair custom and commercial seating systems under the direction of the seating clinical team. You will also complete equipment/wheelchair repairs as needed and support the work of the area such as ordering equipment and supplies, equipment maintenance, keeping the area clean and completing any necessary paperwork for billing purposes.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12. Minimum of one year's experience in the area of seating and fabrication of custom seating.

Additional Required Qualifications:

To ensure your skills and qualifications are considered please attach a resume and cover letter with your application. Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program. Minimum one year experience in a healthcare setting. Specialty training in the use of manual and power tools and carpentry. Alberta Seating Education Workshop as per AADL guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated organization and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated understanding of working in an environment of Family Centered Care. Level C- custom seating technician. Connect Care training. Minimum 2 years of pediatric experience.
