Your Opportunity:

The Respiratory Therapy Quality and Safety Technical Lead (QSTL) advances professional practice for the Respiratory Therapy discipline to support excellence in patient and family centered health care. This position is responsible for providing technical support, addressing recalls, evaluating new equipment, recommending equipment purchases, providing provincial input into standardization of evidence-based practices, and introducing quality safety initiatives related to respiratory equipment. The QSTL supports the Respiratory Therapy Managers by functioning as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with expert clinical and technical knowledge to provide education, assess practice needs, lead quality improvement initiatives, and support research and development. This is a leadership role with expectations for quality improvement, clinical delivery and improvement, system and process transformations, and education development. The QSTL is responsible for delivery and development of sustainable quality improvement with focus on safe patient care. This role is important to the ongoing quality assurance initiatives and has responsibility to ensure accuracy, safety, and relevance of all respiratory equipment used in the Respiratory Therapy Department. This position acts to align planning and policy development, service delivery and evaluation of the Respiratory Therapy Program at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Description:

As a Respiratory Therapist III - Clinical Practice Lead, you will be responsible for mentoring, promoting standards of practice, responding to clinical questions, and coordinating ongoing skill and student development within your team. You will collaborate with managers and supervisors in the provision and access to internal and external continuing education and professional development programs including certifications and upgrades.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

The required qualifications are a graduate of a recognized School of Respiratory Therapy, has passed the CBRC exam, and holds active registration in good standing with the CRTA. They must maintain current BLS-HCP certification with annual proof. A minimum of five years of acute care experience within the past seven years is required, including recent work in a tertiary acute care teaching hospital. The candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, initiative, and the ability to work independently. Leadership experience in change management within complex healthcare settings is essential, along with a clear record of professional development. The candidate should be knowledgeable about best practices, governance, legislation, ethics, and current trends in respiratory therapy. Strong communication skills and the ability to lead teams, build partnerships, and resolve complex issues are also required.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have preferred experience in governance document development, registration with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists, and a related degree or degree preparation. Preferred qualifications include training in quality and process improvement, change management, and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Oracle, and SharePoint, along with demonstrated leadership in managing change within complex healthcare settings.
