Description:

As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be a graduate from a recognized School of Respiratory Therapy and eligible to write, or have passed, the National Respiratory Certification Exam administered by the Canadian Board for Respiratory Care (CBRC). Maintaining current active registration in good standing with CRTA throughout employment is required, along with current basic life support (BLS-HCP) certification and annual proof of active certification. Quality of work must meet departmental and organizational expectations, demonstrating competency in all phases of the job and adaptability to new procedures and information. Staying current with advances in respiratory therapy as well as departmental practices, policies, and procedures is essential. Clear communication, organization, and consistency of ideas, both verbal and written, including clinical documentation are expected. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, confident, and enthusiastic individual with a positive attitude who aligns with AHS Values. Quick and decisive action using critical thinking and problem-solving skills is essential, as is sound judgment through analyzing facts, considering impacts, and seeking counsel when appropriate. The role requires the ability to work independently and collaboratively, fostering effective interpersonal relationships with peers and other caregivers. Reliability, effective time management, and the ability to prioritize and complete assigned tasks are also necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current acute care and charge therapist experience in a tertiary teaching hospital, along with orientation to both the major and minor clinical areas of the position. Experience in precepting students. Demonstrated ability to develop quality initiatives and implement practice changes. Active participation on committees would be beneficial. Additionally, certification in Advanced Life Support, Arterial Line Insertion, and IV Insertion, and current membership of Rapid Response team
