Respiratory Therapist II
Your Opportunity:
The Respiratory Therapist II (RT II) is an advanced-level clinician responsible for delivering specialized respiratory care within the Sleep Disorders Clinic. This role focuses on the comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with sleep-disordered breathing. The RT II works collaboratively with Respirologists yet independently manages patient care plans following the initial consultation. Key responsibilities: Independently assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients with sleep-disordered breathing in alignment with the Respirologist’s recommendations. Deliver follow-up care, therapy monitoring, and troubleshooting. Review and explain sleep study results (PSG and HSAT) to patients under the guidance of the Respirologist. Provide expert patient education regarding sleep-disordered breathing and related therapies. Collaborate with healthcare teams and participate in patient care rounds, contributing to the development of individualized treatment plans. Act as a resource for advanced clinical decision-making and manage complex or unusual cases referred by the Respirologist. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new technologies and therapies by liaising with medical equipment manufacturers. Monitor and manage clinical supplies and equipment needs for the clinic. The RT II serves as a clinical expert in sleep medicine and is instrumental in ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care. This position requires critical thinking, autonomy, and the ability to support both patients and the interdisciplinary team with advanced respiratory therapy expertise.
Description:
As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will coordinate, monitor and assess clinical services in your assigned area. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment and treatment in your service area, and assist in the development of clinical protocols. You will develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor the progress of patients (clients, residents) receiving advanced respiratory treatment. You will identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient, client or resident rounds, conferences and meetings where applicable.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Current BLS-HCP with the physical ability to perform CPR on adult patients. A working knowledge of Connect Care, Netcare, Outlook and Word as well as other applications is required. Must have excellent communication and documentation skills, and the ability to participate as an interdisciplinary team member. The candidate needs to be able to work independently and needs to have high organizational and prioritizing skills. Recent Experience with Respiratory education, management, oxygen funding, CPAP/BPAP funding pathways, inhaled medications within the last 2 years. Experience with working with patients with complex sleep disorders. An intermediate level of physical activity is required to fulfill job requirements including but not limited to reaching above shoulders frequently, looking up frequently, prolonged periods of keyboard computer work and the ability to assist patients with mobility limitations is required (i.e.: transfers, bariatric clients, bending, stooping, twisting, walking distances). Must be able to lift and carry 10-15kg regularly. Must be physically able to lift 50 pounds.
