Reporting to the Respiratory Therapy Manager (RTM) , this position functions as the Respiratory Therapy Program Specialist within the Medicine and Bronch Suite settings. Ensures that the respiratory care needs of patients in assigned areas are met effectively and efficiently. Ensures that the Respiratory Therapists working in these areas follow the standards of practice, clinical policies and procedures for patient respiratory care and that related documents are current at all times. Coaches and mentors RT staff working in their areas. Identifies staff training needs. Ensures quality of student clinical preceptorships and new staff orientations. Represents Respiratory Therapy Services as a member of designated hospital committees as assigned.
Description:
As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will coordinate, monitor and assess clinical services in your assigned area. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment and treatment in your service area, and assist in the development of clinical protocols. You will develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor the progress of patients (clients, residents) receiving advanced respiratory treatment. You will identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient, client or resident rounds, conferences and meetings where applicable.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Current active registration in good standing with CARTA, current BLS required. 5 years current acute care experience in a tertiary teaching hospital with 3 years current critical care experience. You have demonstrated leadership skills, excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills, positive attitude, demonstrated initiative and are highly motivated to work independently. Current charge experience; experience precepting students, developing quality initiatives and implementing practice change, and active committee participant.
Preferred Qualifications:Current advanced life support certifications specific to the role, relevant baccalaureate degree and or supervisory training/certification. Current Medical Emergency team and Special Isolation team member. Experience in the Bronchoscopy Suite is an asset.
