Respiratory Therapist II
Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the successful candidate will be a member of the anesthesia care team, providing technical and clinical expertise under the direction of the Physicians of the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. Areas of work will include the Surgical Suites of the Walter Mackenzie Centre, Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, and Stollery Children’s Hospital as well as anesthesia locations in Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging. Duties include the operation and trouble-shooting of all anesthesia and physiological monitoring equipment; operation and trouble-shooting of anesthesia gas machines; assist or perform insertion of invasive monitoring, central lines, intravenous and arterial lines; assist or perform all aspects of airway management; operation of blood salvage and rapid infusion equipment; transport equipment and supplies to support the Out-of-OR anesthesia locations; maintenance of equipment to perform blood sampling for blood gas and electrolyte analysis; support and assist with the regional anesthesia block team.
Description:
As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will coordinate, monitor and assess clinical services in your assigned area. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment and treatment in your service area, and assist in the development of clinical protocols. You will develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor the progress of patients (clients, residents) receiving advanced respiratory treatment. You will identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient, client or resident rounds, conferences and meetings where applicable.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Registered Respiratory Therapist and eligible member of The College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA). Proven organizational, interpersonal and communication skills required. Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision. Ability to work under stressful situations. Ability to recognize and maintain confidential information.
Preferred Qualifications:Current CPR required, ACLS and PALS is preferred. Education or work experience in Anesthesia Assistance is preferred. Previous pediatric and intensive care experience is an asset. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
