The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides leadership and expertise in the field of Respiratory Therapy and works collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to assist in the diagnosis and management of patients with cardiopulmonary and related disorders. The RRT will actively participate in the education of patients, students, staff, and physicians. The successful RRT will contribute to process improvement in the department and/or service areas, maintain a professional and accountable practice, advocate professionally and effectively for patients while adhering to AHS key principles of patient and family centred care. The RRT will also provide technical support for all Respiratory Therapy equipment. At SHC, RRT staff work in all areas supported by Respiratory Services. Daily service area assignments will be adjusted as needed to meet operational needs. The successful RRT will demonstrate a pattern of professional development, display collaborative interpersonal relationships, effective communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. The successful candidate will also be able to manage competing priorities, exercise autonomous decision-making, effectively resolve conflict and promote a healthy, safe and respectful work environment.
Description:
As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. Current BLS certification, including expiration date. Minimum of 6 months current independent Respiratory Therapy experience in an inpatient acute care hospital setting. This RRT position includes the following physical requirements: being on one’s feet for extended periods of time (standing/walking), exposure to infectious diseases, and hazardous situations for which they have been trained; be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients, be able to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment such as life support equipment up to 20 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:Current independent RRT acute care experience in ICU, ED, Wards, NICU. NRP/PALS/ACLS certifications. CRE/CAE/CTE certifications. Completed SHC Orientation. Trained for Charge/Float/Outreach. Demonstrated competency in arterial line insertion and adult intubation. Level II/III NICU Case Room and Intubation competency.
