Your Opportunity:

The Mobile Rapid Access Addiction Medicine (M-RAAM) provides non-judgmental, rapid access, to a variety of addiction medicine services in the City of Red Deer. These services are part of an evidence-based care model that promotes recovery, as identified by the individual, for people living with substance use and addiction challenges. The M-RAAM is a facility that provides comprehensive care for substance and behavioral/process addiction concerns by addressing service gaps and offering alternatives to traditional service models, utilizing a multidisciplinary approach. The M-RAAM offers wrap-around services such as medical supports, addiction counselling, psychoeducational groups, relapse prevention, short term counselling, access to social work and referrals to social and recovery-oriented services such as residential treatment, detox, housing etc.

Description:

As a Primary Care Paramedic (PCP), you will assess emergency scenes and patients and may transport ill or injured patients from emergency scenes and between facilities. This includes operating ambulances or other modes of transportation. You may treat patients by administering minor medications, basic life support (BLS) airway adjuncts, and semi-automated defibrillation. You may also lead the BLS crew in delivering clinical care during patient transport or at emergency scenes. You will assist with ensuring that ambulances or other Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles, such as non-emergent transport (NET), are properly stocked and equipped. The working environment for a PCP is demanding and includes exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind, moving traffic, and industrial and agricultural equipment. You will need to travel in all weather conditions and to remote locations (e.g. backcountry) with exposure to hazardous and graphic scenes and direct exposure to bodily fluids. The working conditions for a PCP are also physically demanding. You must be able to endure frequent lifting and carrying of up to 105lbs, while transporting and transferring patients, supplies, and equipment. You must be able to endure frequent, simultaneous kneeling and trunk flexion for extended periods. Additionally, you must stand and sit for extended periods, bend, twist, side-carry up to 20lbs in each hand and assume awkward positions.

Required Qualifications:

Non-restricted registration in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACOP) as an Primary Care Paramedic (PCP). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). Must be able to obtain a valid class 4 Alberta Operator License or equivalent and a five (5) year driver abstract current within six (6) months with no more than six (6) demerits prior to commencing work. Proof of the successful completion of the Functional Abilities Recruitment Evaluation (F.A.R.E.) test via the certificate provided by the Lifemark organization, who do not already hold a clinical position within AHS EMS (VESST, Clinical Educator, EMR, PCP, ACP and Community Paramedic). Your F.A.R.E. test must be completed no more than six (6) months prior to the date of your application. Alberta Health Services EMS may verify results with Lifemark to ensure the candidate has successfully completed the test. Additional Required Qualifications:

3-5 years' experience working with vulnerable populations. Experience working within a Harm Reduction philosophy of care. Cultural competency education and training. Experience working with clients who are actively using illicit substances. Ability to rapidly physically respond to clinic emergencies. Working knowledge of medical supports/ medication for craving symptom management, withdrawal support.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of Red Deer resources. Experience working with Connect Care documentation.
