Your Opportunity:

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive patient- and family-centred care on an acute surgical unit, in accordance with University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) and Alberta Health Services (AHS) policies, procedures, and professional practice standards. 3E3 is a Urology Unit that provides care for up to 21 adult patients, including urology, general surgery, off service surgery patients and off-service medicine patients. The unit strives to deliver high-quality care to patients admitted from the operating room, emergency department, intensive care unit, directly from home, and surgical clinics, as well as patients transferred from other hospital departments as required. Care is delivered within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment. The RN is expected to participate in quality improvement initiatives and to support and maintain high-quality patient care strategies within the Surgery Program.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of one (1) year of recent urology, adult acute care, and/or general surgery experience. Preference will be given to candidates who are fully charge-trained. Demonstrated ability to work to full scope of practice with current and complete clinical competencies. N95 fit testing completed and current. MLL modules completed or in progress. Connect Care training completed. Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and changing work environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to lift 25–50 pounds. No current functional activity restrictions, including but not limited to pushing, pulling, reaching, carrying, or bending. Note: Rotation is subject to change.
