Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse within the past five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required prior to employment: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4): https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification: https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.
Additional Required Qualifications:At least 4 years of adult mental health nursing experience and at least 1 year of geriatric mental health nursing experience within the past 5 years. At least 1 year of outreach nursing experience withing the last 5 years. Experience with diverse mental health problems common to the senior population. Knowledge of the Continuum of Care of Mental Health & Addiction services in the Calgary Zone. Knowledge of Mental Health Legislation especially related to CTO's. Knowledge of and ability to provide Mental Health Recovery Focused Care. Experience in conducting psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, crisis intervention, and medication management. Experience working in partnership with non-AHS and non-profit community agencies. Self-motivated with proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated responsible decision-making through the application of knowledge, critical thinking and sound legal and ethical judgment. Excellent communication (verbal/written) and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in demanding and dynamic conditions. Excellent organizational, problem-solving and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:Mental Health case management experience. Experience in mental health nursing with the senior population is an asset. Experience in an outreach position and comfort providing injections in the community. Group therapy experience is an asset. Nursing leadership experience is an asset.
