Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:Must work days, evenings, weekends, on-call and arrive at the hospital within 30 minutes when called back to work. Must work in both units. If no candidates with recent Day Surgery/PACU experience, consideration may be given to candidates with 2-3 years acute care inpatient surgical nursing experience within the last 5 years or critical care experience. Demonstrated knowledge of commonly encountered disease entities, associated nursing diagnoses/problem statement, effects of medical and surgical interventions, and concomitant nursing interventions required. Experience with application of professional knowledge, technical and interpersonal skills, and clinical judgment in the delivery of professional nursing. Ability to handle heavy or awkward items (lifting, transferring, carrying), and withstand considerable walking or standing. Adherence to nursing policy and practice standards and Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics. Ability to be physically confined to an area due to job demands. Ability to maintain confidentiality of all patient information and health records. Ability to identify own strengths and weaknesses and showing initiative for improvement. Ability to work effectively and efficiently with others and accept change.
Preferred Qualifications:Baccalaureate degree in nursing. Preference will be given to candidates with day surgery/PACU experience. Perianesthesia Nurse Certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. Provincial Perianesthesia Education Program (PPEP).
