Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Must work days, evenings, weekends, on-call and arrive at the hospital within 20 minutes when called back to work. Preference will be given to candidates in the following order - candidates with recent relevant OR experience followed by candidates who have completed an accredited post-basic peri-operative course followed by candidates enrolled in an accredited post-basic peri-operative course, followed by candidates with recent PACU experience. If no candidates with recent OR or PACU experience, consideration may be given to candidates with 2-3 years acute care surgical nursing experience within the last 5 years. Demonstrated knowledge of commonly encountered disease entities, associated nursing diagnoses/problem statement, effects of medical and surgical interventions, and concomitant nursing interventions required. Experience with application of professional knowledge, technical and interpersonal skills, and clinical judgment in the delivery of professional nursing. Adherence to nursing policy, practice standards and Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics. Ability to work effectively and efficiently with others and accept change. Ability to identify own strengths and weaknesses and showing initiative for improvement. Ability to handle heavy or awkward items (lifting, transferring, carrying), and withstand considerable walking or standing. Ability to be physically confined to an area due to job demands.
Preferred Qualifications:Baccalaureate degree in nursing. Accredited Post-Basic Peri-operative certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
