Registered Nurse - NICU

Do you enjoy working in a dynamic department? Do you enjoy caring for and supporting families? The Medicine Hat Regional Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is hiring. The MHRH NICU is a Level II NICU providing care to those born prematurely and/or with health issues. We are a multidisciplinary team consisting of Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, and Physicians, Social Work, Dieticians and other allied health partners. As part of the Women and Children’s Health Portfolio, NICU staff will support and help provide care to their sister unit, Pediatrics. NICU staff will provide support to the LDR and Mat/Child as necessary.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:Knowledge of assessing and providing care for a newborn. Strong verbal and written communication skills with care team and patients/clients, especially in facilitating information transfer between care team and parents. Assessment skills to recognize and respond appropriately to patient/client change in status. Demonstrated critical thinking skills and responses. Ability to safeguard AHS information as private and confidential. Ability to follow and adhere to AHS policies, procedures, goals and objectives. Reliable and dependable. Demonstrated teamwork and ability to work well with others in small groups, especially interdisciplinary team. Strong time management and prioritization skills.
Preferred Qualifications:2-3 years acute care or relevant clinical care experience preferred. 1+ year NICU experience. Proven technical and clinical skills pertinent to NICU nursing preferred. NICU Charge Nurse experience. Experience/knowledge of lactation and the ability to assist/teach mothers to feed their baby preferred. Experience/knowledge of perinatal bereavement and the ability to assist family to cope with newborn loss preferred.
