Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:A minimum of 5 years current adult surgical nursing experience (within the last 8 years) is required. Preference will be given to applicants with General Surgery experience. Charge Nurse experience required, with priority given to candidates with more than 2 years of experience. A minimum of 2 years recent experience (within the last 5 years) with complex pain modalities (epidural, PCA, TAP catheters, lidocaine/ketamine infusions), central lines, complex wound care, parenteral/enteral nutrition, NG/tube feed insertion/management and ostomy support/teaching is required. Candidates may be required to complete a medication calculation exam on interview. Failure to achieve a passing mark on the exam may impact decision to hire. Strong interpersonal, problem solving and conflict resolution skills is needed. Connect Care training, including on-line modules, classroom training and orientation required with preference given to candidates with greater than 1 year experience. The RN must be able to work in a fast paced, physically demanding environment, including standing, walking, lifting, pushing/pulling greater than 50lbs, as well as reaching for patients who range from low to high BMI.
Preferred Qualifications:Ability to communicate findings concisely, accurately, in both written and verbal form, deal with stressful situations, prioritize complex patient care needs and workload assignment, while dealing with frequent interruptions. Demonstrated initiative, reliability, flexibility and critical thinking. Ability to self-identify learning needs and seek guidance in professional practice where knowledge deficits occur. Maintain collaborative working relationships in a multidisciplinary environment.
