Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent completion of a recognized Critical Care course with 1 year of adult critical care experience is required. Candidates without previous Adult ICU experience or certification are welcome to apply and may be considered for the AHS Critical Care Orientation Program (OPACCA). OPACCA is a theory training and orientation program facilitated in an online classroom setting followed by buddy shifts on the unit with clinical instructor supervision. Candidate must achieve a grade of 75% or higher on theory to continue to the clinical assessment. Demonstration of excellent assessment, documentation, clinical, communication, organization and patient care skills are necessary for successful completion of the Clinical Assessment and to continue employment with the Critical Care Program. Alberta Health Services reserves the ability to hire individuals with less experience or education. Candidates must display excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills and have the ability to critically think. Leadership skills and proven mentorship skills are a must. Candidates must show the ability to identify own learning needs, seek guidance in professional practice when deficits occur and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional growth and development. The candidate must have the physical capability for the role, including the ability to lift to and including 50 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience within an ICU setting, observation room, inpatient trauma, or experience with ventilated patients is preferred. Certifications, training or experience with the following are preferred: ACLS, TNCC, CNA Critical Care Certification, intermittent hemodialysis and/or CRRT, cardiac rhythm analysis, Pacemakers, Cardioversion/Defibrillation, Emergency Cardiac Arrest Management, External Ventricular Devices, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring.
