Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 5-7 years recent medical, emergency or ICU nursing experience required, with specific nursing experience in patient assessment and triage. Experience using Netcare, SCM, Millennium Scheduler and OACCS required. Must be self-directed, organized, motivated and able to prioritize, keep pace and function effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills required. Competence in applying knowledge skills, judgment, and attributes required for safe, independent and inter-professional practice. Demonstrated ability to triage patients based on telephone interaction with patients required. Ability to respond to unexpected medical emergencies required. Advanced knowledge of pharmacologic agents required. Competence in integrating reflection, critical thinking, education, and experience to inform practice required. Demonstrated commitment to providing quality service that includes client participation, effective communication using a variety of approaches and purposeful collaboration within and among teams to achieve client care goals required. Demonstrated competence in educating adults required. Facilitates change through patient/family education. Participates in collaborative practice with other members of the health care team. Excellent English verbal and written skills required. Excellent time management skills required. Must be able to work in a physically challenging environment: constant walking, lifting and bending.
Preferred Qualifications:Recent ambulatory care experience preferred. Current expertise in the management of parenteral therapies preferred. Aptitude for and demonstrated excellence in initiating and maintaining IV’s.
