Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:Ability to be self-directed and to exercise independent nursing judgment. Strong interpersonal skills. Experience in interdisciplinary teamwork. Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong analytical, critical thinking, decision making, and organizational skills. Working knowledge of computer applications including basic word processing, email, and data entry required. Recent experience (within the past two years) working with Connect Care or an electronic medical record is required. Recent experience (within the past two years) working in the Healthy Young Families program required. Must be able to perform within established program parameters. Must be able to work in a loud, chaotic, busy environment. Ability to walk 3-4 blocks at a time while carrying, pushing, pulling 25 lbs. of equipment, climb 4 flights of stairs while carrying 25 lbs. of equipment, carry out awkward and repetitive movements for an entire 8-hour shift, sitting, standing, reaching and/or bending for long periods of time. The PHN will be required to document in EMR continuously throughout the day. Be able to comply with appropriate hand hygiene techniques, including regular use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer and antibacterial soap.
Preferred Qualifications:Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in the community sector will be considered. Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Community Health Nursing. Experience working with preschool aged children and their families, diverse cultures, & marginalized population. Knowledge, understanding & demonstrated use of the social determinants of health & health promotion factors.
