Your Opportunity:

Are you interested in taking your nursing practice in a challenging new direction? As a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse with a perioperative specialty, you provide care and support to patients before, during and after surgery. Perioperative nurses are responsible for maintaining a sterile environment in the operating room, monitoring the patient during surgery and coordinating care throughout the process. This post-diploma certificate prepares you to work alongside surgeons and other health care professionals in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment—the operating room. PERIOPERATIVE NURSING for REGISTERED NURSES and LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSES POST-DIPLOMA CERTIFICATE through Grant McEwan and Proctored with GPRH This post-diploma certificate combines online delivery with in-person labs, and in person on site training at GPRH ensuring you have the hands-on skills you need to practice perioperative nursing. Followed by a comprehensive Preceptorship and Orientation on site in the GPRH OR upon successful completion of the Periop Certificate program. The program is composed of online courses that provide registered nurses and licensed practical nurses with the fundamental skills required to work alongside surgeons and other health care professionals in a challenging, fast-paced and team-oriented environment—the operating room. Cohort 46- All 5 courses in the program are offered online. These courses are scheduled over the fall, winter and spring/summer terms and must be completed in specific sequence.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with CLPNA authorized Specialty in Perioperative Nursing. If no candidates with CLPNA authorized Specialty in Perioperative Nursing, consideration will be given to candidates who do not possess all of the posted Operating Room Technician qualifications. In that case, hiring preference will be given to candidates (internal then external) enrolled in the Perioperative course followed by those with 2 years acute care surgical nursing experience in the last 5 years willing to take the Perioperative course. Successful candidates supported to attend the Peri-Operative course will be required to agree to a return service commitment within the unit of 12 calendar months for internal applicants and 24 months for external candidates. Ability to work effectively and efficiently with others and accept change; display initiative for change management and professional development with leadership growth and active participation within the dynamic team of the Operating Room Ability to self-regulate working hours and balance program needs on a full time basis with Grant McEwan and on-site Training throughout Perioperative program Ability to work evenings, weekends and on-call and arrive at the hospital within 30 minutes when called back Ability to handle heavy or awkward items (lifting, transferring, carrying), and withstand considerable walking or standing. Ability to be physically confined to an area due to job demands.
