Your Opportunity:
The NST is a team of RN’s and LPN’s that support patients from birth to 18 years of age. The NST team gives our nurses the opportunity to be orientated and able to work on Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3, Unit 4, Surgical Short Stay and the Rotary Flames House. As an NST RN, you will provide ongoing assessment, care, education, and coordination of services for the physical, psychological, and emotional/ social needs of children, youth and families admitted to the areas that NST supports within a framework of Family Centered Care. The NST RN is a member of the multi-disciplinary team and works both in an independent and cohesive manner to support patient and family centered care. Develop your pediatric skills while working in a supportive learning environment. The NST provides a variety of opportunities for growth and learning in a fun pediatric environment. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 1-year current experience in surgical and medical pediatric care settings. Nursing experience with infants, school age children and adolescents. Experience with Tracheostomies, EVD’s, PD, hemodialysis, CVC’s and oncology/chemotherapy. Completion of pediatric focused courses i.e.: TNCC, PALS, PEARS, ENPC, CHPCN, Trach/Vent certification, NICU Level I, NICU level II, Breastfeeding course Level I, Level II, Palliative Care or other pediatric focused courses. Participation in unit or hospital-based initiatives and committees. Preference will be given to staff oriented to all/the majority of NST supported areas; Units 1, 2, 3, 4, SSSU and RFH. Completion of leadership courses. Exceptional interpersonal communication skills with the ability to adapt communication styles to meet the varied needs of children, families and colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications:Basic computer skills (MS office, Outlook). Ability to communicate fluently in English (both verbal and written). Ability to work under time constraints, within fast paced changing environments. Excellent written and verbal communication. Demonstrated initiative, accountability, time management, problem solving abilities and organizational skills. Strong decision making and critical thinking. Must convey and demonstrate AHS’ core values.
