Registered Nurse
Your Opportunity:
The Registered Nurse (RN) works collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary healthcare team on a busy acute medicine unit and a subacute unit at the Foothills Medical Centre. The patient population on these units include acute medical patients and patients awaiting transfer to an alternative level of care settings in the community. The Registered Nurse – Unit 71 and 72 will work in collaboratively amongst a multi-disciplinary team to ensure that our patients receive high quality, patient/family centered care. These patients do have complex and diverse care needs. The RN will be orientated and required to work on both Unit 71 and Unit 72.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:Current Required Organizational Learning (ROL) required. Recent Charge Nurse Experience and active participation in discharge planning required. A strong understanding of COACT principles. At least 2 years of recent acute medicine nursing experience and strong clinical interest in geriatrics is necessary. Demonstrated ability to work and lead in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients and families in stressful situations. Must have the necessary skills to work with patients with dementia, brain and spinal cord injuries and patients who have challenging behaviors. Strong clinical and assessment skills necessary (Patient assessment, IV certified, CVC/PICC certified, Foley insertion, and Glucometer certified etc.). Must have excellent interpersonal communication, effective time management and organizational skills required in order to work with the multidisciplinary team. Must be able to work in a fast-paced department that is variable, unpredictable, and has competing priorities. Strong conflict resolution and case management skill set necessary. Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with all members of the healthcare team and with patients and family members. Ability to lift and turn patients safely utilizing appropriate techniques and equipment (IYM). Ability to lift and transfer up to 50 lbs. up to 25 % of the time - utilizing appropriate equipment and techniques.
Preferred Qualifications:Relevant Senior’s and Geriatric Health education is highly preferred. Connect Care experience preferred.
