Your Opportunity:

We have an exciting position in our program for a Registered Nurse (RN). The RN works to provide Hemodialysis treatment to patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team. The RN delivers comprehensive patient and family centered care to acute and chronic renal patients. The RN practices within the philosophy and guidelines of the Alberta Kidney Care (AKC) to provide leadership, critical thinking, clinical judgment, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for the purpose of promoting, maintaining, or restoring health, preventing illness, injury, and disability to the renal patient. The RN practices nursing care according to Hemodialysis Nursing Specialty Scope of Practice, regulating body, clinical policies, and nursing standards. The RN demonstrates a professional demeanor, pursues regular professional development opportunities, and maintains professional designation. The RN assumes unit leadership and charge responsibilities to support all levels of the multidisciplinary team as per Unit Manager Direction. This position will be permanent RN Relief coverage for up to 3 Alberta Kidney Care dialysis sites in urban or suburban areas around Edmonton. If there is no previous dialysis experience, the candidate must be willing to attend 4 weeks of full time classroom training followed by a week of Day shifts and then a week of Evening buddy shifts. The candidate must be successful in both the classroom training and buddy shifts to continue in the position.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must possess strong decision-making skills and be able to work effectively in stressful and emergent situations. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are necessary, with the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with other members of the multi-disciplinary team. Strong knowledge of the cardiovascular system, heart rhythm strip analysis (12 Lead ECG) and cardiac patient management is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Completion of a recognized Critical Care Program is required with one (1) year CCU experience preferred. A combination of experience and education will be considered, however successful completion of a Critical Care Challenge exam may be required.
