Unit 21 and 22 at the Foothills Medical Centre (FMC) are adult psychiatric in-patient units that provide exceptional patient and family centered care. We have a robust multidisciplinary team that all contributes their specialty and expertise towards the rapid stabilization of individuals navigating mental health disorders. We collaboratively contribute to every patient’s plan of care in a positive and productive manner. In this position, you will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to develop a robust plan of care to stabilize patients suffering from acute psychiatric illness. Your responsibilities include delivering targeted interventions, with an awareness of evaluation to modify approaches based on evolving patient needs. Your scope of practice will encompass physical and mental status assessments, de-escalation, and conflict-resolution. Additionally, you will engage in discharge planning that promotes, maintains, and restores mental health, while preventing mental illness injury, and disability. In this role, you will also be responsible for facilitating and delivering applicable group content to the patients. Your communication skills will be instrumental in effectively engaging with other departments, services, and clients, ensuring the seamless provision of high-quality care. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:Knowledge of verbal de-escalation techniques required. Working Knowledge of Psychotropic medications required. Experience in AMH assessment tools including but not limited to the Mental Status examination. Experience in various risk assessments i.e. Suicide risk, Homicidal risk, violent risk. 6 months of Addictions and Mental health experience within the last 3 years. New grads who have completed a final preceptorship in an Addiction and Mental Health site may be considered. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Preferred Qualifications:Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) preferred. Recent nursing experience in an acute in-patient psychiatric setting is preferred. Knowledge of the Mental Health Act preferred. Knowledge of the Addiction and Mental Health related resources across the Calgary Zone preferred. Knowledge of trauma-informed care is preferred.
