Recreation Therapist II

Reporting to the Summit Day Hospital program, the Recreation Therapist II provides day to day therapeutic recreation activities for children and adolescents (ages 10-18) with complex mental health issues and associated developmental, cognitive and behavioral disorders. Service is provided in the context of family-centered care and may include liaison and collaboration with relevant community agencies, including schools. Responsibilities may include participation in case conferences, staff meetings, professional development and program evaluation as required, student education, and other related duties as required. Appropriate documentation and statistical data collection is required. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:
As a Recreation Therapist II, you will take a leadership role in ensuring that the level of therapeutic recreation practice in your clinical area is evidence based, patient-and family-centred and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will provide clinical leadership to ensure safe and efficient care as well as coordinate the assessment, treatment, education and care of the patient (client, resident). You will participate in program development to ensure effective delivery of services, including the development of protocols, forms, education, and quality improvement initiatives. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration for Professional Membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). Minimum three years' related clinical experience as a Recreation Therapist.
Additional Required Qualifications:As per the provincial job description. Active registration with regulatory body.
Preferred Qualifications:Completion of Brain Story Certification preferred. Collaborative Problem Solving Training preferred. Suicide Risk Assessment training. 1-2 years' experience working in a multidisciplinary mental health team. 1-2 years' experience working with children and adolescents with mental illness.
