Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

3-5 years' experience in a Recreation Therapist position in Long Term Care, Acute Care & Ambulatory community settings. 3-5 years of demonstrated knowledge & competency with therapeutic recreation professional standards of practice, informed evidence and research, assessments, client-centred treatment plans, identifying outcomes, individual and group treatment interventions, evaluation, documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association professional membership Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). Fitness Alberta certification:  Foundations in Physical Activity & Exercise and Fitness for the Older Adult. Dementia Care training and/or certification (Dementia Practice Guidelines for Recreational Therapy). Aquatic Therapy experience. Expressive Arts & Music Care experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Health Change Methodology. Safe Client Handling Program-It’s Your Move. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention. Food Safety Alberta Certification. Demonstration of continuing education. Physically capable of pushing a wheelchair and performing patient transfers. Punctual, meticulous, reliable & demonstrates regular attendance. Preference will be given to candidates who currently hold these qualifications.
