Your Opportunity:

Practicing within their full scope, the SHC Pharmacy Technician performs all aspects of drug distribution to provide for the effective daily operation of all departmental services and programs leading to safe and effective patient care. The SHC has four key pillars of service: Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient and Family Centered Care, and Innovation. These pillars are guiding the development and delivery of service to all patients and families at SHC. Core duties may include, but are not limited to: Order preparation, repackaging and final product checking of sterile and non-sterile products, including chemotherapy. Providing guidance to and assisting with the training and orientation of staff and students. Providing clinical support through obtaining information to facilitate medication reconciliation activities and clarifies discrepancies and/or collects and organizes information to support the provision of direct patient care. Building interactive relationships with all members of the healthcare team including communicating with nursing staff to clarify orders and requests, triaging drug information questions and distribution issues. Maintaining a high standard of performance through completion of internal validation programs that assess proficiency in identified tasks such as aseptic technique, non-sterile compounding, and final product checking. Participating in special projects and programs as assigned. Maintaining department records, statistics and preparing reports as required. Note: SHC Pharmacy Services provides 24/7 service. Casual employees are expected to complete up to 6 weeks of training, working full time hours.

Description:

As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Understanding of NAPRA and compliance to sterile and non-sterile compounding. Recent experience in hospital pharmacy. Fluency in the English language (both written and verbal). Demonstrated communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, organizational and problem solving. Demonstrated ability to work in teams. Preferred Qualifications:

Recent SHC experience is an asset. Connect Care/Epic computer program experience. Experience with BPMH in a clinical setting. 2 years + experience and valid certification in sterile compounding & non-sterile compounding. Experience in chemotherapy. Checking of interim doses, cart fills, sterile compounding and non-sterile compounding. Experience and knowledge of automated dispensing cabinets. Membership with a pharmacy professional organization.
