Your Opportunity:
The Senior Staff Development Officer, Learning & Development EMS is a key leadership role in EMS and reports directly to the zone Manager of Learning & Development (L&D) Emergency Medical Services (EMS). This position is responsible and accountable for providing the direction, leadership and organization over the activities of the area in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. These activities will also include the integration of various resources to carry out these activities. Each Senior Staff Development Officer takes a lead on a portfolio within EMS Learning & Development (Curriculum Development & Instructional Design, Online Training Module development, Simulation, Clinical Support, Orientation etc).
Description:
This position is accountable for overseeing the planning, coordination, implementation, evaluation and delivery of zone and EMS province-wide comprehensive initiatives and projects. The initiatives and projects are related to; education, quality management and improvement and accreditation. The primary objectives of this position are to establish a foundation for learning and development that will; support a focus of matching learning to patient needs, establish evidence based decision-making and effect required change in the organization. This position works closely with the areas of EMS Quality and Patient Safety, EMS Systems Performance and Innovation, as well as EMS Clinical Operations. In addition, this position is required to be directly involved with the delivery of clinical education in the Zone.

Registered with the Alberta College of Paramedic - Advanced Care Paramedic level or equivalent (e.g. Nursing, Respiratory Therapist). Clinical field experience in Emergency Medical Services or related field minimum 5 years. Post Secondary education – certificate, degree in relevant field (adult education, curriculum development, instructional design, or other relevant field). Must be able to maintain clinical relevance by riding third on an EMS unit on a monthly basis. Education and/or extensive experience in adult education.

Preferred Qualifications:
Degree or Masters in a relevant field (Education, Health). Instructor status in ACLS, PALS, ITLS, NRP and BCLS-HCP, Working Minds, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is an asset. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Demonstrated ability to manage change. Project Management (formal education and experience) an asset. Education/experience in curriculum development/instructional design. Education/experience with adobe captivate, lectora. Supervisory experience.
