Your Opportunity:

The Edmonton Zone (EZ) Hand and Wrist Therapist plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care within the dynamic, fast-paced environment of the EZ Hand and Wrist Assessment Clinic at Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH). This position involves providing comprehensive assessments, consultations, and referrals for patients with hand and wrist conditions. Working as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, the therapist will closely engage with hand and wrist surgical specialists to ensure effective assessment and determine a surgical or non-surgical pathway the patient will follow. Operating under a single-provider care model, the therapist—whether an Occupational Therapist (OT) or Physical Therapist (PT)—is responsible for managing the patient’s initial assessment and referral portion of the continuum of care. This includes conducting initial assessments and extending through to referral as necessary. This approach allows the therapist to support and direct patients in their rehabilitation or surgical journey, ensuring a holistic approach to hand and wrist recovery. The role requires working in coordination with a medical lead to triage incoming referrals, assess patients, and determine the most appropriate treatment pathway—either surgical or non-surgical referral. When applicable, the therapist will ensure that patients are appropriately referred for additional hand therapy services within the community, maintaining seamless care coordination. In line with AHS’s commitment to excellence in patient care, this position offers ongoing education, mentorship, and opportunities to contribute to evidence-informed practices. Therapists are expected to integrate best practice strategies and engage in continuous professional development to support optimal patient outcomes.
